Songwriter Honors Columbia Shuttle Crew and Families with Inspirational
Musical Tribute
“I See Stars Falling” released for first anniversary of
Columbia tragedy
HOUSTON (January 20, 2004) - In memory of the Columbia Space Shuttle astronauts on the first anniversary of the shuttle tragedy, Houston singer/songwriter Julian Samuel today announced the release of his original song, "I See Stars Falling." A year in the making, this epic ballad features voice, piano and a sweeping orchestral arrangement that captures the grandeur of space exploration. The song is available for no charge at www.starsfalling.com.
On February 1, 2003 , seven astronauts lost their lives when the Columbia Space Shuttle broke up over Texas.
The song grew out of conversations the composer had with friends at NASA trying to cope with the emotional aftermath of the tragic event. Samuel hopes the lyrics and music will help to honor the spirit of those who lost their lives as well as be a source of inspiration for those left behind.
"My sincerest wish is that this song will provide comfort to the astronauts' families and friends, the NASA community and everyone affected by the tragedy in Houston and around the world," said Samuel.
Though the words and music were written in three weeks, it took Samuel almost a year to complete the orchestral arrangement and recording in his production studio. Written from the perspective of loved ones left behind, the reflective song centers on the fateful incident, but looks to tomorrow with newfound hope.
"I was deeply touched by this song," said Ephimia Morphew, research psychologist at NASA Ames Research Center . "I was amazed at how beautifully it captures the feelings of those who have lost loved ones striving to make the world a better place through space exploration."
Julian Samuel is a Houston-based songwriter and has several song credits, both as a writer and singer. "I See Stars Falling" marks his most recent release. Samuel has been a resident of Houston for 17 years. He is a graduate of Indiana University and the MBA program at Rice University .
